Edit: I've changed the title of this diary by popular demand, plus the fact that it really doesn't matter. It used to be "GOD-DAMNED MOTHER FUCKING.... DAMMIT!!" That being said, kindly in the future don't waste the time of both of us by bitching about my titles.
My friend (on his message board) just linked to a RedState post as poof that "The 2003 Tax Cuts were good for the country".
GHAAAAAAAAA! FUCKING HELL!!!
Help me out here people... the posts below the fold...
He writes:
The 2003 Tax Cuts, as it turns out, were good for the USA.
However, I don't care.
All that says is: "we'd have an un-believeable economy had the war not occurred. "
Interestingly, this spread of numbers does not address the debt each american now has due to government deficits.
I replied:
believing anything RedState says is like listening to Rush Limbaugh.
He came back with:
Granted.
However, the DOW is UP considerably compared to 2003.
Un-employment is DOWN,
Can't deny that. It's just sadly overshadowed by Iraq.
Also, I wonder how much of that increase in economic growth is due to Haliburton spending My Tax Dollars.
I started to write a response, and midway through, snapped. I got very very angry.
The reason the Dow is up considerably since 2003 is because it just got done vomiting all over itself in 2003.
Unemployment may be down, but the percentage of jobs that pay minimum wage has gone up. Speaking of minimum wage... it's been 10 years since it was raised. How much has the cost of living gone up in that time?
The rich and super rich are getting richer faster than ever before, and the middle and lower classes schlep along with their annual "cost of living" pay raise, which doesn't begin to help pay for the increase in actual cost of living.
At the beginning of this year, my first check had roughly $2 more in it than my last paycheck last year. God-fucking bless the Republicans and their tax cuts. If I save up for a whole year, I'll have $50 tucked away to help me buy a tank and a half of gas! Woo-freakin-hoo!
Billionaires get back hundreds of thousands of dollars (maybe more, I really don't know the exact numbers) and I get $50. Well FUCK THAT. The government can have my fucking $50 and put it towards paying for universal health care since at least half of Americans don't have any health care coverage.
Allright... fuck it. If you want to believe the tax cuts have helped, go for it. But it sure as hell doesn't feel like it to me.
I really wish I could have come up with something a little more coherent, and a little more well-sourced. Any suggestion on some good sources? Outside sources would probably be best, since he doesn't trust DailyKos.
Some background about my friend: he's registered as no party, but usually fairly conservative. He hates what Bush has done to our country, but still supports conservative principles.
Any help would be appreciated.
